Story
The series is based in a small town in Uttar Pradesh, where patriarchy and misogyny are deeply ingrained in the culture.
Ravi Shankar Tripathi is a young policeman assigned to investigate the case of an acid attack survivor. He is initially reluctant to take on the case, but is eventually motivated by his desire to help Parul and bring her attacker to justice. As Ravi investigates the case, he discovers a dark web of misogyny and violence against women. She also learns that the acid attack on Parul was not an isolated incident, but part of a larger pattern of violence against women in the city.
Ravi's investigation leads him to some powerful and dangerous people. He risks his life to bring Parul's attacker to justice, and he also challenges the patriarchal and misogynistic attitudes that allow violence against women to continue.
Kaalkoot is a powerful and important web series that throws light on the issue of violence against women in India. This is a well-made and thought-provoking series with some strong performances and insightful writing. However, it is important to note that the series is slow paced and could have been condensed into a shorter duration.
Here are some additional thoughts on the series:
I appreciated the way Kalkut explored the themes of patriarchy, misogyny and violence against women in a subtle and complex manner. The series didn't shy away from the harsh realities of these issues, but it also showcased the strength and resilience of women who are affected by them.
I also thought the performance in Calcutta was excellent. Vijay Varma was particularly good as Ravi, and Shweta Tripathi as Parul was also very believable. The supporting cast was also strong and I especially liked the performances of Seema Biswas and Yashpal Sharma.
Overall, I felt that Kaalkoot was a well made and thought provoking web series. A must watch film for fans of crime thrillers and social commentary. However, I would suggest that viewers should be prepared for a slow paced series that tackles some difficult and disturbing subjects.
